General Plastering FAQs:

What types of plastering services do you offer?

dropdown arrow

We provide a full range of plastering services, including traditional plastering, drylining, metal framing, and plasterboard installation. Whether it’s for a new build, renovation, or repair, we have options to suit your needs.

What is drylining, and how does it differ from traditional plastering?

dropdown arrow

Drylining is a technique where plasterboard is attached to a wall or ceiling, offering a faster, cleaner alternative to traditional plastering. It’s especially popular in modern construction as it allows for quicker installation and smoother finishes.

Rendering and Exterior Finishes FAQs:

What types of rendering do you offer?

dropdown arrow

We offer traditional lime rendering as well as modern renders, including monocouche, silicone, acrylic, and cement renders. Each type has unique properties and aesthetic qualities suited to different building requirements and environments.

What is the difference between monocouche and other render finishes?

dropdown arrow

Monocouche render is a pre-mixed, through-coloured render that’s applied in a single coat, which speeds up the process and reduces maintenance needs. Traditional renders often require multiple coats and painting, but monocouche gives a vibrant, long-lasting colour without repainting.

What are the benefits of lime render?

dropdown arrow

Lime render is flexible and breathable, making it the perfect option for older buildings that need moisture control and protection from cracking. It’s a more sustainable option that’s also highly resistant to algae and moss growth, preserving the look of heritage buildings.

Which render finish is best for modern buildings?

dropdown arrow

Modern renders like silicone or acrylic are often ideal, as they offer a clean, weather-resistant finish with a wide choice of colours. They also provide strong water repellency, making them very low-maintenance and suitable for new builds.

What are the benefits of using pre-bagged render?

dropdown arrow

Pre-bagged render provides a consistent and high-quality finish, with several key benefits:

  • Consistent Quality:

Pre-bagged render is factory-mixed to ensure a consistent blend, which reduces the chance of human error in mixing on-site and ensures a reliable finish every time.
  • Time-Saving:

Since the render is pre-mixed, it saves time on-site and speeds up application, making it a practical choice for larger projects.
  • Enhanced Durability:

Many pre-bagged renders include additives that improve flexibility, adhesion, and resistance to weathering, helping to prevent cracks and extend the lifespan of the render.
  • Wide Range of Colours and Textures:

Pre-bagged renders often come in various colours and finishes, providing flexibility in design without the need for additional painting or finishing.
  • Ease of Storage and Transport:

The render comes in sealed bags, which are easy to store, transport, and handle on-site, reducing mess and waste.

Liquid Floor Screed FAQs:

What is liquid floor screed, and when should it be used?

dropdown arrow

Liquid floor screed is a smooth, self-levelling material used as a base layer before flooring. It’s excellent for underfloor heating systems as it creates minimal gaps around pipes, optimising heat distribution.

How long does liquid floor screed take to dry?

dropdown arrow

Depending on the thickness and environmental conditions, liquid screed can take anywhere from 24 hours to a few days to dry enough for light foot traffic, but up to a month before you can lay carpet etc on top of it, depending on depth. But this is the worst-case scenario.

What are the benefits of using liquid floor screed?

dropdown arrow

Liquid floor screed offers several advantages over traditional sand and cement screeds:

  • Faster Installation:

It can be poured quickly, covering large areas efficiently, reducing installation time.
  • Self-Levelling:

Liquid screed flows easily and levels itself, creating an even, smooth surface that requires minimal manual finishing.
  • Enhanced Thermal Efficiency:

It’s ideal for underfloor heating systems, as it forms a snug fit around pipes, reducing air gaps and allowing for better heat distribution and energy efficiency.
  • Reduced Shrinkage and Cracking:

Liquid screed dries with minimal shrinkage, reducing the likelihood of cracks over time.
  • Improved Durability:

Once set, it provides a strong, stable base for a variety of flooring types, making it a long-lasting solution.

Metal Frame Work and Ceilings FAQs:

What is metal framework in plastering?

dropdown arrow

Metal framework involves installing metal studs and tracks to form internal partitions and support plasterboard walls and ceilings. It’s lightweight, durable, and versatile, often used in commercial and modern residential buildings.

Do you install tile and grid ceilings?

dropdown arrow

Yes, we install suspended ceilings, including tile and grid systems, which are popular in commercial and office spaces for their accessibility and soundproofing qualities.

How do I maintain a tile and grid ceiling?

dropdown arrow

Tile and grid ceilings are low-maintenance; however, cleaning or replacing stained tiles as needed will keep them looking fresh. The grid can also be painted or replaced if necessary.

Other Common FAQs:

How long does plaster take to dry?

dropdown arrow

On average, plaster takes about 5-7 days to dry, depending on room temperature and humidity. You’ll know it’s ready for painting when it changes from dark to a light pink colour.

Can you repair damaged plaster or render?

dropdown arrow

Yes, we offer repair services for cracks, holes, or damaged areas in both interior plaster and external render to restore the surface to its original state.

How do I choose the best finish for my walls?

dropdown arrow

We’ll work with you to choose the best finish based on your aesthetic preference, durability needs, and budget. Whether you prefer a smooth plastered wall, textured render, or modern drylined finish, we can guide you.
